A Quick History Lesson In Free Midi Files

21-10-2009

During the days of early computers, sounds, and music, electronic files were not as sophisticated as they are now.  Indeed, many people who compare the two often either find themselves impressed at how far we have come, or perhaps snickering at the gamey quality of past pieces.

A great way to see for yourself is to compare sounds or music pieces.  The sound file type is a dead giveaway as to what style you will hear.  For example, download any free midi and compare it to an mp3 file, or even a wav file.  The free midi uses all electronic sound and may remind listeners of old video game music or sound effects.  Through improved hardware, software, and sound capturing technology, composers and mixers are able to deliver high quality pieces to eager customers.

While there are many places that allow you to obtain a free midi, the quality certainly won’t be near what you are likely to be looking for.  Likewise, many sites that advertise these files are less professional, utilize pop-up ads, and generally don’t carry the type of sounds that serious customers are looking for.

AudioMicro has a wide variety of both royalty free music as well as sound effects in addition to tracks that you can purchase.  The clarity and variation in the pieces offered range much more than what any free midi can offer.  Composers have so many different tools at their fingertips, which gives customers great choices.  These sound effects or music pieces can be used in so many different ways, from PowerPoint presentations to YouTube videos.  The scope reaches much farther than the old, outdated midi.

Not to say that the midi is unappreciated or unused.  After all, it was one of the first ways people could enjoy music and sounds on their computers.
