nicholas markos has been called a hipper underground version of david gray by jim derogatis of the chicago sun-times, and greg kot of the chicago tribune calls him bewilderingly eclectic and one of chicagos most promising performers. from pop-rock to ambient and electronic music, markos deftly shapes the musical colors to suit his songs.
operating in a variety of genres (under a variety of pseudonyms), markos consistently delivers music with real soul and emotion. his live-performance credits include opening sets for bob dylan, melissa etheridge, the violent femmes, todd rundgren, roger mcguinn, squeeze, and many others. his recorded works feature top-flight musicians (and friends) including todd sucherman (styx, brian wilson), mike zelenko (material issue), and scott bennett (brian wilson, flaming lips, liz phair). he has played guitar for acts including cath carroll, last gentlemen, and holly long, and has written songs for other artists, most notably taylor mills (brian wilson).
in addition to producing and performing with other artists, markos has composed music and provided songs for several independent films, including the 2007 documentary trashed (oxi productions), the forthcoming documentaries vincent: a life in color (zweeble films) and get lamp (directed by jason scott), the features idea men (ware films) and wrecking ball (e2 films), and national lampoons not so silent pictures. he has also composed music for commercials for the chicago white sox and other clients, as well as main title sequences for several independent films and tv shows. his melodic sense and his sensitivity to the emotion of a piece help scenes resonate perfectly.
