merek received his bachelors degree from rutgers university, where he studied composition with charles wuorinen, pulitzer prize winner in music and macarthur fellow. merek finished the bmi-lehman engel musical theatre workshop in new york in 1993, then completed graduate study in film scoring at new york university later that year. he has since written music for four short films as well as for video, cd's and internet websites. merek designs sound and/or composes music for many nj rep productions, notably including the concert/play octet (produced nj rep mainstage 2000 and williamsport, pa's community theatre league in 2004), the dramatic musical immortal interlude (nj rep mainstage 2001), and the multimedia play find me a voice (njrep mainstage 1999). in addition, he has designed sound for over 100 new york area theatrical productions. as owner of musicnyc, a music/computer consulting business, merek assists creative people and arts institutions with their musical and general computing needs. his most recent classical composition, "prism": eight short colors for piano quintet , may be heard on his website. merek is a member of bmi, and may be contacted through his website at musicnyc.com.
