Fredrik Blom
Bio
the magic of movies has always been a fascination of fredrik - to be able to tell a story to other people with both visual and sound. when he first heard john william's theme for star wars on the radio, too young to see it in theatres in sweden, he was hooked on movie music. the radio program was a ...Read more...taped radio-review of the movie, but it was only the opening that was played over and over again.
as movies, music has always been an integral part of fredrik's life - his grandfather always played traditional swedish songs on accordion or guitar, and his father listening to jazz more or less every day yet always open to try new things - soul, funk, heavy metal - anything that had something that caught on regardless of style. this open mind not only exposed fredrik to a lot of different music, but it also sparked an interest for trying new things and not being stuck to labels.
surprisingly, it was not until 2000 he started to make music himself in a more serious manner. earlier attempts had always come to an end for various reasons. without the desire to be in a band, creating music had been a quite expensive thing with hardware synthesizers in racks, but with the start of software instruments it became easier for one-man-bands to start, and this gave fredrik the opportunity to start composing and creating music that sounded the way he wanted without compromises.
initially it was just to make music in general, and for own filmed material such as martial arts demonstrations, weddings and so on. but when he heard the music of craig armstrong, things took a different turn. the possibility to use music as a way of heighten the emotions shown on screen, and even to tease or trick the viewers was too tempting to let go, and he started to look for movie makers in need of music.
since then, fredrik has scored numerous short movies in various genres - from documentaries and dramas (dark as well as romantic) to action filled fan films and thrillers. the appreciation for different musical styles has helped fredrik when creating music ranging from sparse piano arrangements to "over the top" orchestral music mixed with pumping percussion and electronica.Hide more...
